SPINNER offers customers state-of-the-art solutions for maintenance-free, contactless rotary data and power transmission via rotary optical and electronic couplings. Unlike slip rings, rotary couplings from SPINNER are failsafe and have a very long service life. They run in either direction as required, are robust and practically invulnerable to problems and malfunctions, and suffer no wear.

The rotary couplings support IEEE802.3-based bus protocols. The bit error rate (BER) is less than 1x10-12, even at 99% bus capacity utilization. For applications calling for even higher data rates, 1 Gbit/s transmission models with automatic bus speed detection (auto negotiation) are used.

Contactless data delivers clear benefits in rotating systems whenever slip rings can’t meet requirements due to large diameters, high data volumes and/or infrequent maintenance. This is also true of contactless power transfer systems with hollow cores: they’re preferable whenever failsafe, uninterrupted (24/7) operation is essential at high rotational speeds.

The new compact transmission systems from SPINNER ingeniously combine contactless data transfer, which has proved itself in real-time bus systems, with the ability to supply up to 750 watts. As an added benefit, there is room in the hollow cores for device-specific connections to the rotating unit.

Contacting and non-contacting transmission systems can be combined individually according to customer’s requirements. These hybrid systems are merging the different transmission types in one slip ring and will be designed and manufactured according to each customer’s specification. Thus, the reliable transmission of power, signals and media through one single unit is possible.

CAN Automotion has been supplying slip rings in standard capsule, through bore and custom designs that can be used in any electromechanical system that requires unlimited continuous rotation to transfer power signal and data across a rotating interface. D series 38mm through bore slip ring range can be made in different configurations of power, signal and data rings from 12 to 100 rings. According to the number of rings configured in your application our D series slip ring is available in 10 standard frame lengths from 66mm to 238mm.

Features:

  • The smallest of the multichannel fiber optic rotary joint's (FORJ) made by SPINNER is the x.25 with an outer housing diameter of 25 mm and two to four channels. Precisely produced mechanical components, highly trained technicians, and active alignment of all optical parts combine to endow this FORJ with superior performance and reliability in a compact case.
  • The two, three or four channels can be separately specified according to your needs. This ensures that the FORJ is optimally suited to the application at hand. For example, it is possible to have both single-mode and multimode channels on the same FORJ, thus providing a high degree of flexibility in all situations.

Fiber Optic Rotary Joints with 3 to 8 channels-x.40 model

The x.40 type builds the bridge in the intermediate range of SPINNER’s fiber optic rotary joint portfolio. With an outer diameter of 40 mm, it lies between the small x.25 (Ø 25 mm) and the largest representative x.60 (Ø 60 mm). The x.40 can be equipped with up to eight independent channels.

The x.40 can be equipped with both single-mode and multimode channels. Also, a mixture of both is possible. In any case, each channel is optimized independently, resulting in lowest attenuation and preventing cross talk between the channels. x.40 stands out for its high rotational speed of up to 1000 rpm.

The x.60 (with an outer diameter of 60 mm) accommodates the largest number of channels of all SPINNER fiber-optic rotary joints. Up to 33 channels are possible, thanks to the high-precision proprietary SPINNER Collimator Technology (SCOT), which is also used for all of our other FORJ types. All of up to 33 independent channels can be individually specified and optimized. SCOT allows for single-mode or multimode or a mix of both for maximum flexibility. Exacting quality management ensures maximum performance and reliability during a long service life.

Premium versions with excellent IL values and IL WOW values are also available.

SPINNER can also make FLEXIFLANGES for this type to ensure easy integration into your setup.


Optical Rotary Joints
Fibre Optic Rotary Joints with 34 to 109 channels-x.60 model

Thanks to a new technology, SPINNER’s x.60 type can be configured with up to 109 single-mode channels in a diameter of up to 60 mm. No other FORJ features this many channels in a comparable housing size. SPINNER’s optics department works continually to improve the FORJs, also by incorporating new technologies and using different alignment approaches. As a result, the x.60 paves the way for unprecedented new possibilities and applications.

SPINNER can also manufacture customized FLEXIFLANGES for easy integration in your setup.

Pressure Compensated and Seawater Resistant Fibre Optic Rotary Joints (Type 1.17pc/ Type x.65pc)

The x.65pc with an outer diameter of 65 mm has also been equipped with the patented pressure compensation system. As a result, no additional pressure compensation system is required. The rotary joint is equipped with the same rotating contact seal and can connect between two and eight channels between the rotor and stator. The typical insertion losses range between one and two dB independently of the number of channels. For the x.65pc, an FC or ST coupler version is available to facilitate installation in customer systems.
